The paintings are shown as complete works, not decorative fragments. Their lines and layers speak to many of the same concerns as the buildings: structure, movement, surfaces, and the changing meaning of places.

Mose Putney is a Louisville architect and painter with a long interest in how places gather meaning over time.

Mose Putney’s work moves between architecture, painting, drawing, and the close observation of places. Based in Louisville, his architectural practice has included new neighborhood housing, adaptive reuse, historic rehabilitation, and larger urban projects. His paintings and sketches explore many of the same concerns at another scale: structure, memory, movement, and the marks that accumulate over time.

His approach begins with attention—to the building already standing, the street around it, the people who will use it, and the history that should not be erased.

Outside the studio, the same attention continues—in old buildings, changing weather, working landscapes, and the people and animals that make a place familiar.
